Lootmaar is an online marketplace for
Pakistan. We won't bore you
with mission statements that say nothing; our mantra is simple: Create the
perfect marketplace in Pakistan. We have created a platform where can you buy and sell
electronics. If you feel we should expand to other areas then let us know. As
cliche as it sounds, this really is your marketplace. This will work only if you
sell on it, and buy on it. So get off your proverbial butt, make a list of
things you want to sell and put them on Lootmaar. Watching people get into a
bidding frenzy over used underwear is quite, um, strange. That's one reason
we've chosen to stick to electronics. That, and the 200 odd people who were
screaming for a platform where they could buy and sell their mobiles, ipods and
bluetooth sets at fair prices.
If you've read this far, I congratulate you.
Who are we?
Irregular cogs. Questions?
I'm Adnan
Haider, if you're reading this you probably know me. If you don't, then
remind me to pat myself for my new found fame. My previous venture was imaGyn, a non-profit medical device
company I co-founded in the US. We were featured in BusinessWeek, Yahoo News, US National Public
Radio, and all major Pakistani newspapers. Before my forays into cervixes, I was
a technical specialist at IBM focusing on enterprise storage and business
continuity. I have a degree in engineering management from Duke.
If you want to rant, rave, complain, whine or
compliment, email me on adnan@lootmaar.com.
I co-founded Lootmaar with Noman Turab. He is busy doing worthwhile stuff
and doesn't have the time to engage in self flattery, so he is allowing me to do
the honors. Noman studied from a UK school with an awkward sounding name, MiddleSex if I remember
correctly. Before that, he could be found loitering in 90 Clifton.
The team that conceptualized Lootmaar includes Majid
Shaikh and Adeel Tufail. Majid is an operations guru with IBM Consulting and
Adeel is a banker who specializes in alternative distribution and electronic
payments.
So that's us.
Lootmaar is a collaborative effort with some very
cool people involved. The business plan was written in Jawwad's class, and the operations are
being incubated at Alchemy. We have very
distinguished advisers in the US and
Pakistan, including a
Bollywood producer. Without their advice and support, we could not have come
this far. Finally, let me make the following declaration: I love my team. Rehan
and Salman, I apologize for making you work on nights and weekends, and for
calling you at 2am, forgetting the 9 hour time difference between us. You have
been great!
